Union dues are only like $40 a month for us as far as I know. Or at least that is what they told us. But yes, I thoroughly expect to be raped by taxes thanks to IL being a broke ass state government. I blame my parents for making me live here.

The union of the school I work in. It is just the school union, not a county union. Since I am a teacher our union's consist of just the teachers and the support staff. Thus it is cheaper.

yeah most teachers have a union (public schools)...

though the one I was in was not helpful at all (I was in one when I worked at a grocery store--and as a union employee you start at the bottom, and everyone who is hired before you gets a promotion before you REGARDLESS of performance....I had to wait for everyone to move up before I got promoted to the job I had actually applied for--and was over qualified for--....including 15 year old kids who's work ethic included: showing up to work late, leaving early, hanging out in the break room for 1 hour on their 15 minute break, etc...I didnt work there for very long).

ah, well, hope unions have gotten better since then.

Unions have their uses. Some charge ridiculous amounts to join though.

I was going to have to pay union dues whether I joined or not. They have some like fair pay policy in our contract so that even if you don't join the union, you still have to pay the union dues. I figured in that case, might as well join.

Well almost 72 hours without power at home and a projected Sept 5th until we get it.
At least we have hot water and we can cook as we have natural gas.

not quite sure why I am awake at this hour, so I think I will just take some more advil and try to get a few more hours of sleep (headache since yesterday--hate this time of year).

Thanks all for your concern. The storm didn't seem all that bad, we have had worse
northeasters, but it must have hit some very vital areas. The weather is in the high 70's to low 80's but very low humidity and at night it has dropped to the 50's.

I agree, that is extremely ridiculous... And I doubt you will get it on Sept 5th since that is Labor Day... Well then again you might since you don't live in IL where the state government is lazy. I hope you get it back very soon. Oh, and send me some of your cooler weather please. 94 today, 99 tomorrow, 96 Friday. Ugh...

its not the government that owns the utilities in most states, and I have a friend who works for one--they usually work until they get the job done, but still 7 days??? thats just unheard of!
pwnd really doesnt like the state government....(should have been in idaho a few years ago....though blagoyabitch wasnt much better!)

Ameren is worse than our government imho. They are too lazy to even press a button to start my power up on a weekend. Lazy bums.

yes the utilities are WORSE than the government (heard they want to raise the rates where my sister lives---yet they pay the workers bonuses every year....my hubby hasnt had a raise in 3 years---(pay CUT 3 years ago) and NO bonuses!---think they need to rethink things....gee guess I am lingering close to a taboo subject so I will cease).

pasta salad for dinner tonight....hubby is getting pretty good (I made the sauce)...still not yet ready for his masters test (chocolate)...but my young padawan is improving

Ya, Ameren is trying to raise their rates for some $93 billion dollar project or something. But everyone is pissed at them because they should be lowering, not raising, their rates right now. But such is greed.
